Do not delay. The stampede of smoke alarm upgrades to meet the 2022 deadline has begun. Detector Inspector’s buying power means high quality alarms at a super low cost with valuable inclusions.
Are you ready for the change?
Change is coming to Queensland smoke alarm legislation. From 1 January, 2022, photoelectric, interconnected smoke alarms must be installed on each storey and in all bedrooms and hallways of all rental properties, powered by mains power or non-removable 10-year lithium battery.
Without compliant smoke alarms, properties cannot be rented, and yet simple maths suggests there are not enough days left for all Queensland properties to be completed ahead of the deadline. Prices will rise and availability will be scarce.
Move now with one of Australia’s leading providers
With over 250,000 homes receiving our smoke alarm services in the past year alone, Detector Inspector is one of, if not the largest provider in the country. That purchasing power has been used to good effect – to secure Queenslanders a smoke alarm upgrade offer that is almost too good to be true.
With high quality alarms at super low prices, this deal cannot last and on 1 April 2021, prices will rise. Lock your upgrade in today and get the benefit of a fixed cost upgrade including installation and your first years servicing, for 4 bedroom homes or less. For 5+ bedrooms, get the benefit of a very low per alarm price based on the number required to make the home compliant.

Yes. Our Total Property Upgrade Price up to a 4 bedroom home includes required alarms in hallways and common areas. Please read our Upgrade Terms for more details.
In most cases, an office or study will require a smoke alarm unless there is a reason why the space could not also be used as a bedroom.
We offer Detector Inspector branded smoke alarms at fixed low prices. We source our alarms from the same factory, using the same components, as higher-priced branded equivalents.
The new legislation mandates the installation of photoelectric type smoke alarms (instead of ionisation type) for safety reasons.
Ionisation smoke alarms may not operate in time to alert the occupants early enough to escape a smouldering fire. Smouldering fires are the major cause of fatalities in house fires.
From 1 January 2022 smoke alarms in all rental properties must be installed on each storey of the property and in all bedrooms and hallways, powered by mains power or non-removable 10-year lithium battery, photoelectric and interconnected and compliant with AS3786:2014

From 1 January 2022 for dwellings being leased, re-leased or sold (and 1 January 2027 for all other dwellings), smoke alarms must be installed on each storey:
- in each bedroom; and
- in hallways which connect bedrooms and the rest of the dwelling; or
- if there is no hallway, between the bedrooms and other parts of the storey; and
- if there are no bedrooms on a storey, at least one smoke alarm must be installed in the most likely path of travel to exit the dwelling.
Additional information is available in the Smoke Alarm Installation Information Sheet.
