Queensland 2027 Smoke Alarm Upgrade Terms

1. Offer

From 1 January 2027, owner occupiers have stricter compliance requirements at law (“Compliance Requirements”) with respect to interconnected smoke alarms. We offer to ensure the smoke alarms at the property are upgraded to comply with the Compliance Requirements (“Upgrade”) on the basis of these Offer Terms and subject to the Exclusions (“Offer”).

2. Upgrade Price

The Upgrade Price attached to the Offer is valid for a specified period as set out in the Offer provided to you. The Upgrade Price is the estimated cost to upgrade the entire property based on the total number of interconnected smoke alarms required. The Upgrade Price is subject to onsite confirmation and the final cost may vary if additional alarms are found to be required or where Asbestos-Containing Materials are identified.

3. Acceptance of Offer

To accept the Offer, you must pay the estimated cost via the Detector Inspector 2027 Upgrade Offer webpage.

4. Existing Mains Connected Alarm

Where the property has an existing main connected smoke alarm, in some circumstances, the Compliance Requirements will require it to be relocated.

Where relocation is required, if the smoke alarms are not protected by a RCD or RCBO, we will suspend the upgrade. The Upgrade installation will remain suspended until the switchboard has been upgraded. Where we are satisfied that the switchboard has the required RCD safety switches installed, we will relocate the mains connected smoke alarm.

Please note when a Smoke Alarm is relocated or replaced, there may be residual damage either from the original installation or resulting from the relocation or replacement of the Smoke Alarm. Our technicians are not professional painters/plasterers but will make reasonable efforts to avoid causing further damage. Damage that may have been caused by the original installation or from the relocation or replacement can vary due to the type of original Smoke Alarm installed, the size of the cable hole and existing paint coverage and there may be discolouration from the original Smoke Alarm location or from plastering. Any repair or cosmetic touch-ups are the responsibility of the homeowner and are not included in the Upgrade Cost.

5. Exclusions

This offer expressly excludes the following items:

  • the cost of a switchboard upgrade required in order to support the relocation of a mains connected smoke alarm;
  • any Plaster Repair Costs are specifically excluded from this Offer; and/or
  • any costs associated with asbestos removal.
6. Total Number of Alarms
You agree that we will determine the number of alarms required to complete the Upgrade at the property. This determination will be made at our absolute discretion in accordance with the Compliance Requirements then in force.
7. Your Obligations
Upon completion of the Upgrade, you agree to pay Detector Inspector any balance of the Upgrade Price (if applicable). This balance is calculated as the final Upgrade Price for the property minus the amount you have already paid via the Detector Inspector Upgrade Offer webpage.
8. Warranty

Smoke alarms provided through this offer include the following warranties:

  • PSA alarms: 10-year product warranty.
  • Detector Inspector alarms: 3-year product warranty, or a 10-year service warranty while you are subscribed to Detector Inspector’s smoke alarm service
9. Asbestos-Containing Materials (ACM)

Where asbestos is identified, magnetic fixings will be used to install alarms. This method incurs an additional cost of $100, that will be added to the Upgrade Price where applicable.

10. Additional or Relocated Dead-Air-Space Alarms

You authorise us to relocate existing alarms to avoid dead-air-space and ensure proper functionality, and to install additional alarms where required to meet compliance.

11. Non-Compliance-Required Alarms

Alarms that are not required for compliance will remain in their existing locations.

12. Terms of Service

Our services (including those the subject of this Offer) will otherwise be strictly governed by our Terms of Service, which may be varied from time to time.
